Richard Leo Groneck passed away at the age of 48 surrounded by his loving family. Stricken by the same illness that took two of his brothers, David and Charlie Groneck, and sister in law, Gayla Groneck. The youngest of 21 children Rick’s childhood was often spent surrounded by family, a tradition he carried on by having 5 kids of his own. His love for the ones he cared for was infinite, as was his passion to help others. Rick loved his life and the people he spent it with. He would always tell his children “just choose to be happy”, an expression he believed in and practiced through his upbeat attitude and perspective during his battle. Though his advice was not reserved for his close friends and family. Anyone who got the opportunity to meet Rick could see these defining qualities shine. His kindness, selflessness, and overall genuine desire to be the best father he could was never in short supply. His memory is a constant reminder to appreciate life when dealing with adversity, and lend a hand to anyone who needs it, no matter the hand you were dealt.
His family continues to fight in his name, striving to give others hope in the face of adversity so they too can choose to be happy.
